Yes the latest sattelite pics for the ONGC geological surveys show the presence of oil on Hill Road. So they've sent in the advanced team and the initial exploration work has begun. They are sinking the test pits right in front of Holy Family hospital.
The earlier pics showed large oilfields further down Hill RD. Near the Police station, but the test wells were dry. So they were abandoned and everyone's keeping their fingers crossed [ Oil field hands find that a little difficult because most of them have a few fingers missing but they're trying ] that the new explorations will be more fruitful.
The good news is that if they don't strike oil , they close the road up and instead of re-tarring it they give you a concrete road.

The sad part about the concrete surface is the price one has to pay to get it. In today's day of automation in construction, we still rely on so much manual labour. I guess this is what happens in a populous country that needs to show a low inflation % and a high employment figure...
The ammount of dust/ dirt the construction and traffic now kicks up all along Hill Rd will show up as mini atomic clouds. One HAS to feel sorry for pedestrians especiall all the school kids that trek up & down Hill Rd everyday, not to mention the poor aunties & uncles trying to dodge the everpresent and unrelentig traffic. In fact I think anyone with a little decency and a car should deliberately block traffic for a few seconds if u see some old folks or children in particularly trying to cross an intersection. Have u looked at the mess on the corner outside St Andrews' church?? Sad...
20 years on the job and here's one Bandrabuggeroilfieldhand that can boast of well crossed fingers.
